Liminal

A “liminal” is a creature that is close to sentience, but not considered to have full personhood. Some mundance creatures, such as chimpanzees, elephants, and dolphins, are considered liminals, as well as many splicebred animals. Most liminals of a soul with six strings, though some have seven but lack some other characteristic—such as language—considered crucial to be a “person”. Many scholars debate how liminal creatures should be treated, if they are deserving of moral consideration or not, and what exactly is the boundary between man and beast.
